My music studio is humming with Christmas music and good cheer.
I am into my last week of teaching before the 2 week Christmas break. I am having “open lessons” where parents are invited to come and sit in on their child’s lessons. We have tea, treats, conversation and lots of laughter. I don’t have much contact with parents throughout the year and I think it is important meet with them periodically over the year. I only see my students once a week and the rest of the week they are home practicing and I don’t know what is going on except from the kid’s perspective. So I like to have the parents in to find out what is happening at home.
Piano Wizard continues to amaze me. I have 2 students using it at my music studio now and I am having so much fun with the process. I am amazed at how easy it is for the kids to learn to read music and how painless it is for them to go through the levels of the game and then go to my grand piano with the music and play it within minutes of first learning the song!

Welcome to Let's Play Piano!
My name is Nancy King and I have been teaching people of all ages to play piano for over 25 years. I have taught over 1000 people of all ages and abilities to enjoy playing!
It was while I was going to school in Toronto at York University for ethnomusicology (the study of different cultures through their music) that I decided I wanted to return to playing the piano. I hadn't played it in about 10 years and was really missing it. I found a wonderful teacher at the Conservatory in Toronto and I was back in love with it. This teacher changed my life and here I am, hundreds of student later, sharing iwth you my passion about playing piano.
I have my B.A. from York University where I studied anthropolgy and music, and my A.R.C.T. (a teaching certificate) from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and lots of experience teaching all ages and skill levels.)
I can lprepare students for theory and piano exams BUT what I love most is teaching people the love of playing piano and the music they play.
In August I was introduced to this awesome computer program, Piano Wizard, that helps people learn the piano, with regular piano lessons. I have been using it in my studio and the reults have been amazing! Our lessons are SO much fun. Learning to ready music can be very tedious and challenging and this program takes those factors out of the process and the results are fun and exciting and very rewarding.
